Relatives were also threatened to silence suspected leakers. One source said the authorities were “chasing us, chasing the people we love, desperately hunting for leaders. This is a clear signal. The authorities are terrified and are reacting in the only way they know how: with violence.”
Thousands of protesters gathered in Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Sunday calling for an end to military rule
Clashes erupted on Sunday after hundreds of demonstrators tried to make their way to the Republican Palace – the office of the President of Sudan – but were met by police, who fired tear gas at the protesters in response.
The video shows demonstrators chanting slogans against the military, which toppled the transitional civilian government in 2021 and dealt a devastating blow to the Sudanese pro-democracy movement that toppled President Omar al-Bashir two years earlier.
The authorities closed the main Mek Nimr Bridge, which connects the center of Khartoum and the north of Khartoum.
